I do not have this box set in my collection, but that is only because I already have everything it offers, albeit spread across more than 500 CDs, DVDs, Books, and individuals posters, stills, etc.Ġ6. The book I have nothing but praise for, and is, in my opinion, easily worth at least $75 - $125 all on its own. Some of the songs are nothing more than DVD rips, as opposed to digitally remastered recording or new recordings. I would have assumed they would have provided a region free DVD. Whether or not Bear family Records has rectified this issue, I do not know. In some of the reviews I have read, one of the main complaints is that the DVD will not play in region one (United States). To have all of this available in a single boxed set is, in my opinion, well worth it at the prices it is being offered for. That being said, however, I can also say that I spent considerably more than $300 amassing my collection. And I can say that I likely have more posters, stills, lobby cards, advertising pieces, and artwork than the book does. The same can be said regarding the DVD of trailers and behind-the-scenes footage. I can say that every single song/musical piece on the CD’s is available elsewhere. Whether or not the content (which is huge) justifies the cost is a matter of personal preference. The price? Anywhere from $170 to $300 depending on where you purchase it. This is a box set which contains 10 CD’s of soundtrack music, 1 DVD of film trailers, and a 464 page hardcover book. Sad Departure / The Pace That Kills (3:01)īox-set with 10 CDs (344 tracks, 13:18:24 minutes running-time), one DVD (27 tracks) and a 464-page hardcover book True Grit: The Digital Premiere Recordings from the Films of John Wayneġ5. ![]() Not to take anything away from the other conductors who have recorded John Wayne soundtrack albums, but there is just something about a Bernstein score conducted by the master himself! In these instances he is conducting the Utah Symphony Orchestra. Volume One and Volume Two, the two sound recordings originally in vinyl (released in 1985 & 1986 respectively) are long out of print, and have been replaced by a single CD which combined the two albums.īoth of these vinyl recordings, and the subsequent combined CD, stand apart from many of the Elmer Bernstein soundtrack CDs in that it is Bernstein himself conducting. Music composed and conducted by Elmer Bernstein, performed by the Utah Symphony Orchestra. Digital Premiere Recordings from the Films of John Wayne
